Below are some photos of a model that I made which reflects my experience of Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem.
I wanted my model to reflect the sense of small scale and tight atmosphere. I also wanted to show the warm ambience that the lighting provided. From the outside, this model does not really do this at all, but this was not important to me. You can't see the caves from the outside, what was important to me was the inside. I cut out a hole in the top of the model and held a flashgun at the opening. I put my camera on 'bulb mode' and positioned it at the end of the tunnel. When the shutter opened, the flashgun was activated, sending a powerful flash through the model. The warm colours of the cardboard reflected the bright white light into a warm illumination down the tunnel. The result can be seen below.
I really like how inviting the light is at the of tunnel. It speaks of atmosphere. But the tunnel is still a narrow way to get to it. I think the above photo has worked really well and is exactly what I wanted my model to show.
I then stabbed a small slit into the side of the tunnel and positioned the flashgun next to that. I wanted to mirror the effect of shafts of light entering through some of the small windows found in the inn.

The image above has worked just how I envisioned. The flash has created a sharp shaft of light on the wall and floor of the tunnel. To me, this shaft of light feels similar to ones found in the Jewish Museum in Berlin, by Daniel Libeskind. The angles and distinct clarity of the light are what cause me to make this connection.
I am very pleased with how this model has worked out. To me, it represents my feeling and experiences of Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem perfectly.
