Art doesn't always have to be painted with oils or watercolours. The portraits below are testament to that fact, showing how coffee can be used to a debatably even greater effect.
These stunningly accurate paintings by Michael Aaron Williams were done using coffee on century old ledger paper. The unconventional method of painting manages to achieve a remarkable sense of realism and depth, creating an almost apparitional image which fades away. I love the streaks which manage to introduce the image and draw it away again, whilst defining the face. The results are very dramatic and powerful. They almost feel quite dark and sombre. I can understand how my client might also create such art, perhaps in the more depressed side of his mood swings. |
