Following in the theme of unconventionally made portraits, Scott Gundersen has created some impressive portraits out of using wine bottle corks.
These brilliant cork portraits start out their life as drawings, which are then covered in nails, which are in turn covered by corks. The various hues in the portraits are done simply by selecting specific corks, all of which are recycled. The process takes time, but slowly the corks build up a whole image and the result is quite spectacular.
The pictures are quite big in scale and to see the picture properly can require viewing from a few steps back. However, I think that to appreciate this piece fully, a few steps forwards must taken so that the work can be viewed in detail as what it is.
This is an interesting link regarding my client. Since my client is a hoarder, it is not unreasonable to suggest that he may use his findings in his artwork. Corks are one way this could be expressed, but certainly not the only way. I think it would be interesting to use his findings in his work, but not necessarily only as they are. Maybe he paints over them? Perhaps he builds up a 3D image out of them and then covers it in paint? There are many possibilities which could be reflected in his work, personality and indeed the architecture for him.
