Thinking more about how my client is a hoarder, it is of course important that they have a place to store everything. This made me think of storage containers and in turn led to the idea of using such containers to build with. This is not a new idea, but it is an emerging one, with large shipping containers leading the way.
There are many examples of how shipping containers are being used to build with, but the one which I alway think of is the example for a shopping centre in Elephant & Castle in London. The idea behind this is to allow people to rent spaces for various uses, such as cafés, artistic spaces, galleries, shops and more. It is not the only example though...
The image above is my favourite example of the reuse of excess shipping containers. The original purpose of shipping containers is to use them for moving and transport, so it seems appropriate that this continue to be their use. The above proposal is to use them for mobile emergency responses. They could essentially be used to set up small hospitals and camps at short notice and at almost any location.
