QUAI DES CAGEUX - PROMENADE SAMUEL-DE CHAMPLAIN This pavilion in Quebec City was very boldly designed specifically for wood. Aside from the windows, wood is the only material used for the design. This choice was made because of the location’s harbour setting and lumber history at the port. The design feels very natural to me, the part I particularly enjoy is the tunnel closest to the viewer in the picture opposite. It creates a small but valuable bit of shelter and I feel that such a feature could be utilised well in my own designs. For example using just part of that tunnel to create an overhanging shelter, whilst still retaining a good level of openness. |
