Designed by UNStudio, this observation tower takes a different approach to observation than the above example by Duggan Morris Architects. This said though, the purpose for the tower is different.
This tower is not designed for a city but for a nature reserve in the Netherlands. This, I feel is far closer to the kind of initial ideas I have for my own designs. It also feels more relevant to the project, with it being placed amongst nature, although it is worth remembering that we are able opt for a connection with the city.
The design of this tower is very open and allows people to connect to the surrounding nature. The bottom picture shows how the design allows users to interact with the surroundings at different levels.
I had been thinking about an open topped design that allows users to actually touch the tree tops. It is inspiring to see an example of this having been designed, albeit not out of timber.
