ARCELLORMITTAL ORBIT This controversial observation tower designed as part of the London 2012 Olympic Games by Anish Kapoor provides a powerful vantage point for visitors to it. It provides a panoramic view of the city of London to any who venture up to the top of the tower. It is giant in scale and built very predominantly from man made materials, such as steel. The aim of this observation tower was to allow people to view London and connect with it in a way that hasn't always been possible. The closest option till this point has been The London Eye, or to go to the top of one of London’s skyscrapers. This, however, offers a view both from, and of, the regenerated Olympic Park. This allowed people from all over the world (who were drawn in by the games) to see the whole city in one go. It accepted that visitors would not be able to visit the whole of London in the time they were there, and offered them an alternative way to connect with it. |
